You see it on the ROBLOX forums. You see it in ROBLOX's long list of popular games. You see it on ROBLOX Wikia's forums. No, not online dating. You are way more likely to come across online dating bashers, ROBLOXians who try without much luck to banish all online daters from the ROBLOX community. It's a lot like being in a popularity contest in middle school, except that this middle school has over 6 million active users. To be really honest, I really don't see what all the stigma or harm is about online dating, including on ROBLOX. Sure, it might not be the safest thing to do on the internet, but the site has pretty tight regulations about users giving away personal information. I can't say I've dated anyone on ROBLOX, but I certainly have online dated people I've met on Instagram, Facebook, and a few shady web forums. I am not that young and naive anymore. The internet has helped me branch out. Actually, I can say the internet has changed who I am, and who I know, and who I call my friends. The internet is an awesome way to meet people -- new friends, new dates. We humans are sexualized beings who need something to continue. Although you may never meet some people you are following on Instagram, or even in many cases speak to these people online, seeing a picture of one of them once in a while on your news feed may just keep you going through a very hard and dismal life. For many, the reality is that they live in a community that does not accept who they are. Luckily with the internet, people have the whole world at their finger tips. On ROBLOX, people meet new people. Participating in ROBLOX's community is like living in a large city of various people and cultures. Most people you meet on the internet you would have never met offline or pre-computer. While some common sense must be taken on the internet as nobody knows if you are a cat or not , I do not see any harm in young people online dating on ROBLOX. To the naysayers, what harm does safe online dating on ROBLOX have on children? I personally think it is eduational. Online dating teaches one how to date, how to be socially acceptable with partners, how relationships work, and how dating causes a wack load of useless drama in middle school. Children have to figure out how dating works sometime anyway. The whole sex-ed thing in 5th and 6th grades where you learn about body parts is a joke. The education system is flawed and does not teach you any basic components about how to be in a proper and healthy relationship with a future partner. Sure, kids have friends who think they know everything about dating. But in reality, they don't. I'm not suggesting ROBLOX turn solely into a sex education website, but I am suggesting this; stop harassing ROBLOX's online dating culture! Everyone was young once. Experimenting on an online game monitored by adults can't do any harm if you use common sense, such as keeping it on ROBLOX and on ROBLOX only. Besides, social interaction is good. Being in a relationship with someone is good. It shouldn't be too serious... Please feel free to comment and ask questions below, or even debate about this as this is a thread. I'm sorry for my inactivity since I left the wiki's administration team, but I have been very busy with school. The major problems with ODing are predators. Even if you voice your own opinion on how sick it is for a 40-year-old man posing as a 17-year-old guy to date a 16-year-old girl, it will still happen no matter how much the effect of your opinion gives. Roblox put the rule in to stop dating in general, as you never know who's behind the other computer. They may just be good liars or good actors. You have to consider that ROBLOX targets users primarily under the age of 15. If kids know how to stay safe on the internet and take precautions, what's the harm of roleplaying a date on an online game? Also, people need to know how to have proper relationships somewhere! Common day media portrays sexual partners as simple objects eg: Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, Miley Cyrus. Even with online dating on ROBLOX, you will quickly learn that is not how a real and healthy relationship works. I must start by saying thank you for quoting me, Pixelragefx... But I should explain everything about online dating. The reason I said 'lonely preteen' is because of personal experience. I was a lonely preteen and child. You see, back when I was a kid, I didn't know what ROBLOX was. Ironically, I was all for computers. I'm not going too far back in my life because then I was crashing my parent's desktop. I think I was about 9 or so... And my mom told me I had 8 girlfriends in my entire lifetime. Keep in mind I was and still am autistic. I've made a userbox about this, and so I was outright weird back then. I was doing weird things, I was saying weird things, I was WRITING weird things... It, on it's own, was not something I knew. If I knew about it then, I would've had more girlfriends. I had met someone online who would later create her own PlayStation Network account after she was using her brother's to play the game. I had a near-dating-esque relationship with her. We were almost close... This girl was a Muslim. Her family did not permit her to date, online and locally. It kind of came as a shock to me. Her family was diverse, and even to this day, I question how her parent's managed to stay together. Point 1: It wasn't her decision not to date. It was a combination of her religion and family. So, why do I bring this up? Well, this girl was from the other side of the world, all the way in Britain itself, where the video game was created. How is this relevant? ROBLOX is an American game, and when we compare American society to a British one, there are differences. One thing that people have to remember is that the world doesn't revolve around America. Just because it's a superpower doesn't mean it's automatically the main country of the world. I understand Team spirit, but when it comes to how Americans treat Muslims, it's very bad. Al-Qaeda is an Islamic group, but not the definition or representation of Islam itself. Islam is to a Muslim what Christianity is to a Christian; it's what they believe in. If you oppose someone because they believe in what Osama Bin Laden believed in, that's technically discrimination. Everyone is different, people think differently, and they're supposed to act the way others want them to. That's how everyone gets along. But remember, the internet is worldwide. You could be talking to a Filipino or a Brazilian. Since their country works a different way, you either have to cope with what they're doing or do it your own way. So, how is this relevant, in any way, to Online Dating? See, America the land of the free allows a lot of free behavior, except obviously crime. They allow children to engage in behaviors that are not typically seen in other parts of the world, since those parts work differently. If Muslims are not allowed to date in example above, this is not always true, however , then by accessing the internet, where it is possible to do that, they are at risk of scolding, AND worse; whoever is behind the other screen is most likely in another part of the world. Point 2: You can't change a foreigner's belief's, since the internet is worldwide. For a game like ROBLOX to exist, it can't be a Hulu or a Comedy Central; videos limited to the US only. Back when I was 11 again , I discovered Torrent's and Piracy. I was unfamiliar with it until I actually visited a pirate's house. He said these exact words: 'you know what Bittorrent is? I said no It's where you can get movies for free. So, when I actually tried it for myself, I was more satisfied to get it there than from iTunes or the PlayStation Store. This was only a portion of my curiosity. Curiosity got me into Wikipedia. I was always reciting facts I learned, and by the time I was actually writing on a Wikia project, it would be near identical to those articles. Yes, you learn from being curious, but I learned more than what I needed when I was there. So, when I say 'if I learned about it then, I would've had more girlfriends', curiosity is the main reason why. A lot of younger kids don't know things, and so they begin to question those things. And it gets to the point where they try them. And that's where it starts to pass on; they learn from other's mistakes. And then they learn from their own. As an example, I am an exceptionally skilled cheater when it comes to Mario Kart: Double Dash. I can actually do Rainbow Road without falling off the track, because I've practiced it so much. When my sister watches me do it, she gets very jealous because even though she can beat Mario Kart itself, it's always been a hassle to her. Point 3: You can't stop a curious kid. So, what do people have against online dating? They'll tell you everything. Or most of it. Firstly, from someone who writes neutrally, it's not safe. Even if the game's for children, it technically allows for anyone to join. And I have explained this before: The major problems with ODing are predators. Even if you say it's sick for a 40-year-old man posing as a 17-year-old guy to date a 16-year-old girl, it will still happen no matter how much the effect of your opinion gives. Because the girl doesn't know that the 17-year-old she's pretend making-out with is a pedophile. Roblox put the rule in to stop dating in general, as you never know who's behind the other computer. It could be someone from the other side of the world, or even your neighbor. Since we, the human race, have a huge population, we are also diverse. I said this a few paragraphs ago; everyone is different. A good idea to one person is a bad one to another. If you assign someone the challenge of making a LEGO spaceship, you could either get 4 2x8 blocks assembled in a plus-shape, or a gigantic sculpture-like creation. Just like an opinion, the LEGO's creator varies, and reactions and responses are just as well the same. So, why do they do it? Why do they go through the trouble of risking being banned? It's because they want to. According to the other kids, it's apparently the best thing ever for them. There's no harm in trying it, right? Point 4: To stop online dating, you have to change how they think. How do you do that? That's why it can't be stopped. Kids need to know it's bad for a reason, but that reason can't be because of personal experience or contradiction. Point 2 The internet allows for everyone and anyone, not just your local friends. You don't know who you could be talking to. Why is it a big deal? Point 3 Kids are curious to try new things, just like drugs and intercourse. Point 4 To stop ODing, you have to make sure everyone acts a certain way. So, then why can't we stop it? Because everyone is different. To stop one idea from being good, all people have to be the same. Yours of Honesty, TheDarkness909 If I have to explain further, some children are limited in their choices by religion or family-wise. Since ROBLOX is an online game, anyone from around the world can play it. Some parents want to try to limit what their child is doing, and dating is one example. It can't be stopped until our children are somehow limited in choice where online dating actually becomes irrelevant, meaning there would be other options. Some of the more limit less children want love-like relationships regardless of introversion or extroversion. The introverts are not social enough to find love through school or anywhere locally, so they resort to the internet, which is basically the same thing as an extroverted relationship, except it doesn't involve any human contact. But I would not consider the parent's ignorance of this situation as neglect. Everyone is different, so in that aspect, some parents think it's good, some think it's bad, and some don't even care what their child does. But then comes the problem of how people see THAT. Some people think those parents are neglectful, some think those parents are not, and it's just a whole web of different opinions; there's no definitive view on it. Perspective-wise, I think the decision to limit freer children is hopeless. Those children can technically do what they want. I mean, you saw Jared, a child under the age of 18, set up a ROBLOX social network for banned users AND online daters alike. There's no doubt that these children are going to find ways to prevent others from limiting them, much like piracy and the media companies and software developers. If a free child can do what a limited child can't, the free child will try to make the limited child just as free as them. It's more of an opportunity to them. You can compare it like a simple glitch that can easily be replicated on several copies of the program. If one person knows how to get it, the other will get it too. Despite roblox not allowing online dating, many people seem to ignore that rule back in the past roblox did take a few action by removing a few games that incouraged online dating. Beach house roleplay dosent allow ODing but many people seem to ignore that. Testin423 does allow it but people cant do it,if you lay ontop of someone with sleep mode you get auto killed along with the person you layed on. Robloxity is a big game theres just not that much to do since the game barley gets updates. MLP roleplay yeaaaaahhh you cant. S:staph making long paragraphs and get to the point. Despite Roblox not allowing online dating, many people seem to ignore that rule. In the past, Roblox took a few actions by removing a few games that encouraged it, but now the front page is flooded with ODing games. Not really flooded, but there are roleplaying games that are attracting those players in the same manner. Devonski's game is kind of like that, but he's said he'd try to prevent it. Beach House Roleplay doesn't allow ODing, but people seem to ignore that caution, too. Testin423 does allow it but I don't think it's true; if you lay on top of someone and enable sleep mode, you're automatically killed along with the person you laid on. Robloxity is a big game, but there's just not that much to do, since the game gets barely any updates. The complex is possible to, and obviously in Advanced Town of Robloxia you can. MLP roleplay yeaaaaahhh you can't. I'm just writing that into my list of ODing and non-ODing games, like really? Did you have to be that specific? I get that they took off a few games, but you don't need to compile a list of roleplaying places that do and do not allow it. Roblox does allow people to connect their Facebook accounts to it, but Facebook links aren't allowed at all. That's a case of irony. Unfortunately, a paragraph needs to be consistent, and the fact that you put a sentence about irony and one about an instruction in one sentence is far from consistent. If you need to give me advice, I should give you some, as well; don't make your paragraphs extremely spaced out. I know I spent 10% of this message's time fixing what you wrote, but having gigantic spacing between them gives me more of a headache than any actual problems on ROBLOX. I might as well confess. I used to online date. I also know of a few couples who met on online games and are now in a serious relationship or married. In all honesty, I do not see an issue with ODing, especially for the older ROBLOXian population. I understand ROBLOX placing in security measures to protect the younger users, but most older users know to not give out full names, addresses, and other identifiable information to complete strangers. As long as it is a relatively clean and safe relationship eg. As long as it is a relatively clean and safe relationship meaning no Fifty Shades of Grey-like sex games popping up into the popular filter , I do not see the harm. Well, if it was ANYTHING like the book, you know a LOT of the older audience would be hooked to this game for sure. Fifty Shades of Blox perhaps? Fifty Shades of Blox, perhaps? Could even be Fifty Blox of Grey. Anyways, before we turn this thread into a discussion on literary porn and blocks, do you think it is even plausible for ROBLOX to allow ODing? ROBLOX identifies itself as a child-appropriate game, but most of the online dating that I have seen is not serious in the first place. I remember going onto RHS as a n00b and ODing with the fist person I see. There was no way that I was considering that relationship serious. What really irks me is that it is considered ODing to be in a relationship in a roleplay. I am a Medieval Roleplay nerd, and, even when the average age of the users I roleplay with are between 16-21, we are still subject to the same ODing rules as a 10-year old roleplaying at RHS. I can roleplay realistically for that time period, mention that my royal character will marry early, and be punished by ROBLOX for ODing. I see why ROBLOX is trying to prevent ODing, but they are taking it a bit too far. PeterPeter5000 wrote: You see it on the ROBLOX forums. You see it in ROBLOX's long list of popular games.
