How does a single trigger SxS work? - No creep was evident, however.
I think what you are asking is do you have to do anything to fire the second barrel. The answer is no. The gun resets the trigger to fire the second shot on its own, some do it thru recoil and others do it mechanically. Two types of single trigger guns, selective and non-selective. Selective single trigger guns SST have a way of selecting which barrel fires first and it is usually a slide of some sort on the safety itself of course there many variations of this but thats pretty much the gist of it. Non-selective single triggers are just that, the more open choke barrel usually the right fires first followed by the left when you release then pull the trigger again. I prefer double triggers but have a single selective trigger on my Merkel SxS 20. The safety is the normal thumb tang but the trigger selector is on the high side of the trigger itself. It's a small button that shifts from right to left. I've never found it much use while bird hunting though. I always leave it to the left which fires the right barrel first and is the more open choke. Usually it is as 2ESRGR8 describes. True but there's more than one way to skin a cat Mesick cougars notwithstanding... Not meaning to confuse the issue... With this setup if you fired the leading trigger it would fire the lower barrel the more open choked barrel first and pulling the same trigger again the upper or choked barrel would fire. If you pulled the following trigger first the upper barrel would fire and pulling the same trigger again would fire the lower barrel. Thus you had a two trigger gun with all the advantages of a single trigger gun and none of the drawbacks. One aspect of the single trigger vs. Virtually all double trigger shotguns have the leading trigger on the right side of the shotgun and firing the right or more open choked barrel and the following trigger on the left side of the shotgun, behind the leading trigger and firing the tighter choked left barrel. In most instances this is the preferred order of firing. This trigger arrangement is fine for righties but not always so slick for lefties. As I remember DelGrego -who originally worked for Parker - and ultimately went out on his own restoring and repairing Parkers offered conversions of right handed Parkers to a left handed Parkers. His son now runs the business in Ilion, N. My now departed bird hunting buddy Jack - a lefty - actually bought a 16 ga. Parker from Jaqua's that was set up for a left handed shooter. Whether it came from the factory like this or was at some point converted I don't know. A single trigger of course well addresses this problem and many, many double trigger high grade shotguns were converted to single trigger guns especially by the Miller Single Trigger Co. It's now evidently owned by the highly respected Doug Turnbull of Turnbull Restorations and he in fact continues to convert high grade double trigger SxS to the Miller single trigger. It was a marriage of my passions for the outdoors and the internet. In late 1999, we started our first message board. It was one of Michigan's first social networks.
