  85. As shown in the photos the overall condition is VG. These vintage Italian Tinder Lighter Pistols are quite scarce and this one is a beautiful example and displays very well. Most likely made by D. The one piece grip is made of walnut. The tinder holder, frame and forelegs are made of solid brass as well as the candle holder part. The tinder box pulls open to hold the tinder. There is lovely scroll leaf work patterning etched on both sides of the stock. There is some surface wear which is expected for a vintage item like this. It weights 12oz without the flint. Flint not included due to Postal Regs. Flintlock Tinder Lighters originated in the mid 17th Century in Europe and were used to light candles in homes or to start fires in the kitchen or bedroom fireplaces. The user would place some tinder in the tinder box, either small wood shavings, cloth, frayed rope, or dry moss, then place a small piece of flint stone in the jaws of the hammer. After cocking the hammer, the user would pull the trigger, which would allow the flint stone to strike the Frizzen, which would cause sparks to go into the tinder pan. The tinder would light, and the user would light the candle and place it in the candle holder. Then the user would be able to light other candles or the fireplace tinder.
