A place with one star is worth a look—after all, it made the list. We offer fish, meat, vegetables, baked goods, coffee — everything brought to us by the best suppliers and distributors of Norway, as well as some imported products. Mathallen is a place for both the everyday consumers and professional chefs to buy foods from Norwegian small-scale producers and importers. It's not a place to come shopping, more a place to try something new and pick up some fresh meats and cheeses from the delis. Atelier - My personal favourite dishes were the chicken satay and white pudding desert. My tongue has never experienced such nice flavors! There's only one option, beef Pho. If you don't eat beef, perhaps ask if they have vegetarian which I don't think they do unless you ask in advance. Drink ginger beer with your meal and you'll be talking about this food experience for days! Had a lovely Sunday evening at Atelier, with a selection of tasty dishes recommended to us by the waiter. My personal favourite dishes were the chicken satay and white pudding desert. She was attentive and knowledgeable, as she worked part time as a sommelier and at Vinmonopolet, and gave us some really good pairings, such as a 1960 French dessert wine. Also, the open kitchen really adds to the overall experience. What can you expect from a restaurant that recommend cooking their take away on a disposable grill? I ate at the restaurant and had the spring rolls and chicken satay. The contents, besides carrots and glass noodles, of the spring rolls were unidentifiable grey matter without any taste. The chicken only tasted burnt coal from the grill and one piece was even raw. The satay sauce was bland, oily and lacked any taste of peanuts. My recommendation is find any other place but this one. L'Atelier, as its name indicates, serves Asian tapas. And you know what? You can pick 4 or 5 different dishes and then have a myriad of Asian flavours during the same meal. The products are fresh, the dishes are fine and tasty, perfectly made, not over-spiced and served in perfect portions. The service staff is super polite, kind and prompt ; and the fares are affordable still. All in all, Mathallen is a decent addition to Oslo's food scene, although I am tempted to say it IS Oslo's food scene. Right now, a Scandic design hotel, the Westerdals School of Communication, Dansens Hus, and Mathallen itself are the glad tenants. My recommendation is find any other place but this one. Our star system does not denote hotel amenities but it does denote the level of our approval. Fish, dried fish, rotting fish, pickled fish… throw in some bread and potatoes and there you have it — not the most u diet. L'Atelier, as its name indicates, serves Asian tapas. Thankfully Atelier oslo mathallen used to anon very close by, so I knew something was up!.
